Matt Coloring Pages

On #MattTuesday, May 1, we showcased four fan-contributed coloring pages, and all four received the 20 votes required to be printed in our coloring book. We’re making them available to you here as JPG image files, and as ready-to-print PDFs. You’re welcome to enter your coloring of one of these pages on any #MattTuesday for an opportunity to join the #ArtBookForMatt.

We need volunteers!

Kathy W. Bunn (@McKathlin) founded the PTX Fan Art Project in April, 2017. She started running @PTX_FanArt by herself. Over time, she sought other team members to help with some matters of publicity, but she still does conducts most @PTX_FanArt work by herself. We are now seeking more volunteers, so that it can continue its mission, whether or not Kathy is around. Here are the duties. Specific roles where help is wanted are in bold. We are updating this list as volunteers are added.

Co-directors (up to 5)

Co-directors are at the helm of the @PTX_FanArt Project. They work together as equals to shape the vision and mission of the organization, plan event and book schedules, recruit volunteers, and make sure all necessary duties are fulfilled. Co-directors will meet weekly if possible to discuss plans. Kathy (@McKathlin) and Carly (@scoothooying) are two of a potential five co-directors. We’re looking for up to three more co-directors to join us; this is a commitment of roughly 5 hours per week, scattered throughout the week as needed.

Publicists log in as @PTX_FanArt and make tweets. In the few days before their contest day, they call for entries. On their contest day, they quote the thread every few hours to help followers see it. Because of their access to the main account, only highly trusted volunteers may serve as publicist. Publicists who are willing to handle more responsibility are encouraged to also help with receiving entries, posting the voting thread, and counting votes.

  • #FanArtFriday – Kathy (@McKathlin)
  • #AviSaturday – Macey (@MaaceFaace)
  • #ScottSunday – Carly (@scoothooying)
  • #MitchMonday – Ké (@thrillergrassi)
  • #MattTuesday – Meg (@ptxmeagan)
  • #KevinWednesday – Emily (@emilyyurchison)
  • #KirstieThursday – Luis (@luisjhernand)
  • Special events – Kathy (@McKathlin)
  • News thread: the day’s event, upcoming events, auctions, etc. – Kathy (@McKathlin)

Event thread specialists

Advanced duties related to contest days: receiving entries and making the thread collage, posting the voting thread, and counting votes at end of day. These may be done by the thread publicist, or if the thread publicist can’t be present to do them, another person may take this role.

  • #FanArtFriday – Kathy (@McKathlin)
  • #AviSaturday – Kathy (@McKathlin) receives, collages, & posts. Macey (@MaaceFaace) counts votes.
  • #ScottSunday – Carly (@scoothooying)
  • #MitchMonday – Kathy (@McKathlin)
  • #MattTuesday – Kathy (@McKathlin)
  • #KevinWednesday – Emily (@emilyyurchison)
  • #KirstieThursday – Kathy (@McKathlin) receives, collages, & posts. Luis (@luisjhernand) counts votes.

The blog is where we post announcements about events, winners of previous contests, and sometimes make advice posts about drawing, fan artist etiquette, etc. Our blog has fallen out of date because Kathy has her hands full with Twitter events and books. Allison (@ptx_allison) has joined our team as #ScottSunday/#MitchMonday blogger. We are seeking bloggers, especially to make simple posts that display works of art that have won events. #KirstieThursday blogging is our greatest unmet need. This includes catching up where our blog has fallen behind. If you want to help with something less time-sensitive than event thread publicity, this is a volunteer position that may work well for you.

Multilingual outreach

Multilingual volunteers help us tweet some key messages in other languages. They can do this through the @PTX_FanArt account if they have access, or otherwise they can send us a message with the translated text through DMs or GC, for a publicist to copy and paste. We are seeking volunteers for any fandom-popular language other than English, but especially Japanese.

Book-specific roles

The roles described are marked with who’s doing them for the #SuperfruitFanArtBook.

  • Book project lead – @McKathlinPlans out book content and advises on events for gathering it.
Responsible for all book creation duties. Either find people to do them, or do them yourself.
  • Gathering art titles and messages from artists – @McKathlin, @scoothooying, more help wanted
  • Cover art – @McKathlin
  • Title page and chapter head lettering – @McKathlin
  • Book layout (this is a lot of work!) – place art on the pages of the book, and produce a ready-to-print PDF. – @McKathlin unless someone else volunteers
  • Indexing and completeness checking – Write the index. Make sure no entries that earned a place in the book are left out, that all authors, titles, and messages are correct. Betty (@BettyHalamicek) has volunteered to help us document art for the book and build the index.
  • Printing and binding – Michelle Dickey (@MichelleMD404) of @AvisPeeps, unless someone else wishes to do this.
  • Delivery – A trusted person who will have an opportunity to meet our fave within the time window we’ve planned. We are seeking the soonest opportunity to deliver the book to Scott and Mitch. If you have any leads on when and how to appropriately and reliably do this, please let us know.

We’re now seeking a book project lead for the #ArtBookForKirstin.

If you’re interested in helping out in any capacity, please DM us (@PTX_FanArt) on Twitter.

Event schedule until Superfruit Fan Art Book delivery

We have a full schedule of art approval events lined up for our last week of accepting content for the fan art book for Superfruit. Here’s what we’re doing up until we deliver the Superfruit Fan Art Book.

Content gathering events

  • Friday, Nov. 17: The Superfruit #FanArtFriday that kicks off our last week. All entries with 25+ votes join the book.
  • Saturday, Nov. 18: #StrawberrySaturday. Send us your art featuring the Superfruit strawberry! 15+ votes, no limits.
  • Sunday, Nov. 19: Last #ScottSunday for the book. 15+ votes to qualify; many can win.
  • Monday, Nov. 20: Last #MitchMonday for the book. 15+ votes to qualify; win count is limited by #ScottSunday win count.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 21: #SuperfruitTuesday. (This choice of day is a deliberate throwback.) Celebrate “the best show on the Internet!” Any art inspired by Superfruit’s weekly show is welcome. 15+ votes to join, no limits.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 22: #WednesdayWisdom. Share art, accompanied by your words if you wish, that celebrates how Superfruit, or Mitch or Scott individually, have helped and inspired you. Calligraphy and word art are welcome in all our events, but especially today. 15+ votes for art to join the book, no limits.
  • Thursday, Nov. 23: Event for art inspired by Superfruit’s photo book. (Anyone got a cute hashtag for this?) 15+ votes to join, no limits.
  • Friday, Nov. 24: #KEEPMECOMING fan art approval event. 15+ votes gets it in the book, with no limits. This is our last content event for the Superfruit Fan Art Book.
  • November 24-30: #PTXWeek. This week’s qualifying art will go in other books that we’ll deliver in 2018. It starts with #AviSaturday, then we’re taking #ScottSunday and #MitchMonday off, but we’ll be doing an event for art of PTX as a group on Monday. #MattTuesday, #KevinWednesday, and #KirstieThursday round out the week.

Book preparation timeline

  • November 17: Superfruit Fan Art Book fundraising begins. We’ll need an estimated $60 to print, bind, and ship two (2) copies of the Superfruit Fan Art Book.
  • November 27: Due date for all revisions to art & messages.
  • November 28: Book layout must be complete, ready to send to Michelle of @AvisPeeps for printing and binding two copies.
  • December 8: Book is finished and ships to Viola Love (@ptxviola).
  • December 19: Viola delivers the Superfruit Fan Art Book to Scott and Mitch.

Event schedule, Oct. 27 to Nov. 2

This week is a Superfruit contest week with a few additional events. As with all our events, you may enter an event anytime before voting opens for that event. Quote or tweet your art, one image per tweet, and mention @PTX_FanArt. Here’s the day-by-day breakdown:

  • Friday, Oct. 27: #FanArtFriday. Superfruit fan art that gets 25+ votes joins the art book for Superfruit.
  • Saturday, Oct. 28: No events. Enjoy your Halloween weekend!
  • Sunday, Oct. 29: #ScottSunday. 15+ votes to qualify, many can win. Scott and Mitch entries must join the book in evenly matched numbers, so we’ll be putting them in the book according to bandwagon-style priority. Scott tends to have less art entered than Mitch, so if you want art in the book, draw Scott, or invite others to enter their Scott fan art.
  • Monday, Oct. 30: #MitchMonday. 15+ votes to qualify, many can win. Scott and Mitch entries must join the book in evenly matched numbers.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 31: #DENYU approval event. All #DENYU-themed fan art that earns 15+ votes joins the book. It may depict Scott, Mitch, both, or neither.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 1: #goodbyefromlonely approval event. All “Goodbye from Lonely” fan art that earns 15+ votes joins the book. It may depict Scott, Mitch, both, or neither.
  • Thursday, Nov. 2: A bonus #KirstieThursday approval event. All entries that earn 25+ votes join the art book for Kirstin, to be delivered in early 2018.

We also have a special event planned for the following week: we’re now taking entries for a GUY.EXE art approval event that will run on Tuesday, November 7.

Halloween PTX Week: Oct. 20-26

The last full contest week of every month is #PTXWeek, and for October’s, we’d like to add lots of art to the books! Enter as you would enter any of our events: anytime before voting opens on the eve of the event’s day, quote or tweet your art (one image per tweet) and mention @PTX_FanArt.

With the exception of #ScottSunday and #MitchMonday, all contest days will be simple approval events, where all art exceeding a given vote count will join the book. All Pentatonix fan art is welcome; art depicting members of PTX in costume (not counting their music video outfits) gets bonus points as outlined.

  • #FanArtFriday: any art that depicts 3 or more members of Pentatonix (or the PTX logo) may enter. All art that gets 30 or more votes joins our next #PTXFanArtBook; if they’re in costume, we add 15 points to the effective vote count.
  • #AviSaturday: 49 votes to join the book. Costume bonus: +28.
  • #ScottSunday: 25 votes to qualify for the book. Costume bonus: +10. The same number of Scott and Mitch entries will join the book for Superfruit; where there’s a surplus in either day, the top entries are added to the book by priority according to bandwagon contest rules.
  • #MitchMonday: 25 votes to qualify for the book. Costume bonus: +10. The same number of Scott and Mitch entries will join the book.
  • #MattTuesday: 25 votes to join the book. Costume bonus: +10.
  • #KevinWednesday: 25 votes to join the book. Costume bonus: +10.
  • #KirstieThursday: 25 votes to join the book. Costume bonus: +10. Some #KirstieThursdays get a LOT of art and votes, so if more than 5 artists enter #KirstieThursday, we’ll set the vote count requirement and costume bonus according to this formula: Vote count = artist count x 5; costume bonus = artist count x 2.

#KevinWednesday approvals, Sept. 27

This #KevinWednesday was an approval event, and all five entries exceeded the 25 votes required to make it into the art book for Kevin.

And in the evening, Kevin noticed the thread and quoted it!

#MitchMonday approvals, September 25

So many entries came in for this contest that we raised the bar for approval to 35+ votes, and still most of the entries joined the book. Here are the approved works that met or exceeded the 35 vote requirement.
